Artist statement
At the core of my work is Hebrew typography, serving as the visual expression of sounds and frequencies that convey meaning and bridge the spiritual and material worlds. I question the boundaries of typography: How much can I "liberate" letters or words from their conventional visual structure while retaining the underlying rules—such as flow, systematic composition, and repetition? Can typography transform into a universal form that transcends the limits of history and culture?
Through the abstraction of typography, my work delves into fundamental questions about the role of emotion in the world, exploring the unprocessed emotional resonance of letters and words. Using acrylic, ink, and printmaking inks on large canvases or wood, I push typography beyond the confines of paper, merging it with the materiality from which primal and emotional language emerges.
Despite this expansion, I remain rooted in the ancient structure of Hebrew and its phonetic principles, where each word invites playful experimentation and the creation of new forms. The raw combination of letters and brushstrokes generates a specific flow, linking to a primal energy that I seek to reveal to myself and others.
My works call for the development of personal, emotional symbols beyond the conventional forms dictated by classical typography. This interplay between a graphic/typographic foundation and abstract expression creates a frequency that not only forms words and letters but also carries an energetic, emotional force.
